Job Description: The Service Technician is responsible for performing motorcycle, scooter, ATV, Ranger, PWC and snowmobile repair and maintenance work as assigned with the dealer and factory standards. S/he also will oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to him/her. The Service Technician will be required to wear approved dealership attire at all times.
General Requirements
A. Receive repair orders and take to stall area
B. Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
C. Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair
D. Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
E. Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer
F. Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required
G. Advise service department immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised
H. Document work performed on the repair order such as diagnostic failure codes, electrical tests, scan diagnosis, transmission pressure tests, battery load tests, and physical measurements such as bearing clearance or wheel alignment specs
I. Ensure that management is aware of situations where the repair responsibility was originally assessed as one responsibility on the repair order write-up but during the repair, the cause of the problem results in a change in repair responsibility due to such issues as misuse, abuse, damage, lack of maintenance or a vehicle defect
J. Road-test vehicles when required, to quality-check work performed, keeping in mind that customers’ vehicles should not be used for personal use
K. Arrive at work on times designated by management
L. Provide the administrative assistance (time punches, cause and correction etc) necessary to complete repair orders and other tasks assigned by management especially when completing warranty repairs
M. Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
N. Attend factory-sponsored training classes
O. Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins
P. Keep shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership-owned tools at all times by maintaining an inventory of “special tools”
Q. Understand and follow federal, provincial and municipal regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes
R. Maintain a time card as directed by management, clock on and off the hard copy for each individual repair case, including clocking off the repair case at lunch and breaks
S. Report to management any situation or condition that jeopardizes the safety, welfare, or integrity of the dealership, its employees or customers
